SAIntS Interact Club

An exciting new club was launched in September at SAIntS. The Club is called Interact and is aimed at SAIntS students between 14 and 19. The Club is operating in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Blantyre and is being run by two of our new teachers Mr Scarlett and Mrs Samanyika.

The Interact club aims to give young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends.

The goals of the Club are to:

  • Develop leadership skills and personal integrity;
  • Demonstrate helpfulness and respect for others;
  • Understand the value of individual responsibility and hard work;
  • Advance international understanding and goodwill.

The SAIntS Interact Club is the newest Interact Club out of more than 11,400 clubs in over 125 countries with an estimated membership of 250,000 youth worldwide.

Our Club has already begun to discuss and plan our goals for 2010/11 and to discuss priorities with the Rotary Club of Blantyre. We have decided that much of our focus will be on improving the lives of vulnerable children and young people within our local community and on the environment.

As a result we have visited ‘Open Arms’ children’s home and the PaNthunzi Centre for Sustainability. Both visits gave us a tremendous insight into how we might move our club forward over the course of the coming year.  Reports from these visits will be in future newsletters!

Furthermore, as a Club we are committed to working with the Rotary Club of Blantyre in a project to ‘Green and Clean’ Ndirande. This is an exciting project that aims to clean up the streets of Ndirande and to plant 100’s on trees on the mountain. The project will not just involve Rotarians and SAIntS Interact but also young people from the Township and hopes to leave a lasting legacy.

Our inaugural President of SAIntS Interact is Daisy McCaulder, our VP is Barathan Inpalaban, the Treasurer is Chatushka Dias and Sharif Khan is the Club Secretary. In all we have more than a dozen members and over the coming months and years we hope to grow into a Club that is admired across Malawi and beyond!
