Design Technology at Saints

House and Clubs

House and club activities take place in the afternoons at SAIntS. This term, the activities are on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday between 1:30pm and 3:00pm. Some activities go on until 3:30pm. Students in years 7 - 11 are expected to take part in at least two activities per week. Students in the sixth-form are also encouraged to get involved in house and club and to take responsibility for activities and groups.

Each term, students are able to choose different activities and sign-up from a wide variety of options. The activities include sports, design technology, arts and craft, eco-club, computers and photography as well as off-campus activities including mountain walking and horse riding.

There are four houses in SAIntS named after the mountains surrounding Blantyre. These are Chirudzulu, Michiru, Ndirande and Soche. When a student joins St Andrew's, they are allocated to one of these houses as part of a tutor group. The Head of House maintains an overview of the student's progress, both academically and socially, and encourages students to participate in school activities and contribute to the house's achievements.

House points are awarded based on the number of commendations gained in academic departments, involvement and success in competitions and contribution to charitable and whole-school events. At the end of each term, a special house assembly rewards students for their contribution and is an opportunity to celebrate individual successes.

The club and house system is regularly reviewed and updated based on feedback from students, parents and staff.
