Welcome to the Food Technology Department at SAINTS in Malawi. The Food Technology Department is a small but very vibrant part of SAIntS. Students enjoy the subject as it is practically oriented and a lot of fun. It is part of the school curriculum from key stage four. The junior students do baking as a Club Activity in the afternoons.
Technology teaches students how to cook a wide range of dishes as well as theory based lessons on food hygiene, balanced diet, wise food shopping, understanding of food labels and basic cooking skills. In Food Technology students study how different foods can be used and made into food products.
Students learn about the different tests and studies food products go through before they are ready to be sold in the shops. Stringent Food Laws are enforced to make sure that food products are; safe to eat, good to eat, easy to use, well packaged and a reasonable price.
