What We Do

In-Class Support

We offer in-class support, tailored to enable students to access the curriculum. Our experienced Teaching Assistants work with students to build confidence and improve academic performance.

Learning Support Teaching

Some students attending learning support require tailored subject-specific support, others need focus on study skills, such as revision techniques, reading strategies, learning scaffolding techniques to structure their writing, etc.

Literacy & Numeracy Clubs

We offer group literacy and numeracy support tailored to meet the individual needs of our students. The clubs address the key needs of the group, with an emphasis on fun and learning through games and hands-on activities.

Specialised Support

Learning Needs

We provide specialised support for students with learning disabilities, including dyslexia, ADHD, and more. Our team works closely with students to develop strategies that accommodate their unique learning needs. These sessions are structured cumulative, targeted, multi-sensory and are designed to equip students with the tools they need to succeed academically. We offer specialist phonological reading and spelling support, including access to an online program, accessible from home, tailored to improve reading and spelling skills.

Access Arrangements for Examinations

Access arrangements are reasonable adjustments for students who have learning difficulties and a Special Educational Need (SpLD) that significantly affects them in examinations. Students who may benefit from access arrangements are assessed early, to enable them to practice using any support offered. Arrangements may include extra time, use of a reader, use of a scribe or word processor, etc.

ASDAN & BTEC Pathways

We offer different pathways for some students. We are the only school in Malawi offering ASDAN, a Lifeskills certification programme tailored to individual learning needs. We offer several different BTEC pathways, at levels 1 and 2 (equivalent to GCSE level).

Individual Education Plan (IEP)

Performance of students is monitored from Year 7 to ensure best support. Those students who receive additional support or have a confirmed diagnosis of a learning difficulty will have an IEP with suggested strategies to help subject teachers best support their learning in class.
